Your New NAME:
The Vaccination and Booster Double issue
2021-2022

When the pandemic began in 2020, NAME Magazine took a step on behalf of our staff and Name contributors to “evolve” instead of retreat in the face of difficulty: NAME moved from a small-batch, print poetry and fiction publication, to an on-line writing and art magazine—and, as Katy Perry might say: we “liked it!” Not only did NAME survive, we thrived: the student staff worked together remotely with our artist and writer contributors to create a new hybrid space that pulled together work from more corners of the university to create an exciting new literary space for young writers based in the English Department.
We took a pause in 2021 to decide how to best amplify the magazine, and now we’re back with an enhanced magazine format: in addition to being an on-line magazine space that showcases student poetry, fiction, and art, NAME now also publishes—for the first time—the work of our larger body of students through several new columns you’ll discover in a new element on the website: The Rabbit Hole. Follow the students down The Rabbit Hole ”menu” and you’ll find a column for book reviews, features that discuss topics in literature media and writing, and another space for pieces on writing craft. Beyond this, the staff hopes to run writing “prompt” sessions online together in a column called The Writer’s Block. All of this, capped by our new issue every spring.
This year we’re offering a double issue of work from 2021 and 2022—fittingly titled the Vaccination and Booster issue—as a sequel to our 2020 Quarantine issue. Our hope is that it is our last pandemic themed release. But, as always, it is filled with terrific work from UB’s talented poets, fiction writers and artists from across the university.

The new format of our NAME’s website creates a new space for connection and community through literature and the arts in this unusually disconnected moment by expanding our reach to UB students.
